Pupae of a Northern Case Maker Caddisfly

Post by SReynolds »

The northern case makers cases are pretty big, easily mistaken for a piece of twig stem. I found several with developing pupae in them in the same sample I found the Hydropsychidae net. For comparison of size, the first image shows the Limnophilidae (northern) case alongside one of the Brachycentridae (humpless) cases. The cement holding the case together is quite strong. It was not easy to dissect.
